The Experience

Via Colori® Stafford! is a two-day, family-friendly event, taking place from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23, through Sunday, September 24, 2023 (rain date September 30-October1).

Accessible parking and portable restrooms will be available. Food vendors will be on-site should you wish to purchase refreshments. The event is free for participating artists and the public, and you’ll find a number of community organizations and sponsor tables to visit, plus activities for children. Artists will be busy creating their chalk paintings on well-spaced squares, so you’ll be able to walk around and watch them in action.

Become An Artist

  • Register to create a 4×4, 6×6, or 10×10 square on your own, with a partner or a group. The deadline is 9/1/2023 (will close sooner if all spots are filled).
  • If you register by May 15, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in an Art Show hosted by Central Rappahannock Regional Library Howell Branch during July and August.
  • Participate in a workshop with the 2023 Featured Artist (TBD) to get a feel for the festival and learn some tricks from an experienced artist. The in-person workshop (Via Tutori) will be held at Howell Library, date TBD.
  • Because our sponsors believe in supporting the arts, there is no charge for the artists, and materials are included.
  • There will be an artist’s reception and materials pick-up on Friday, September 22 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stafford.

Why Become A Volunteer?

Have you ever wanted to be part of a big, exciting art show, but drawing isn’t your thing? Via Colori Stafford is your opportunity to see it all from the inside. Volunteers are essential to making it an amazing, family-friendly event to celebrate the arts and the creative process, and volunteers are absolutely critical to making this festival happen. In fact, WE are volunteers!

Why should I sponsor an artist?

Via Colori® offers you at least one advantage not found at other festivals. At most art shows, the public sees the sponsor’s name once. But, because Via Colori artists are creating the work on the pavement during the festival, it changes each time the public passes. People return again and again to mark the progress of the work in the process, they see your name and logo, denoting your contribution. Banners denoting your sponsorship will be prominently displayed above a painting sponsored by you! Your sponsorship will also be listed on our website, and social media accounts and highlighted throughout the year.
The main benefit is that you directly help our beneficiaries, the Stafford County Museum and Cultural Center, and the Rotary clubs of North Stafford and Stafford. All donations/sponsorships (monetary/gifts) are tax-deductible and a receipt will be distributed for your records.

What is

Via Colori

The Via Colori® Street Painting Festival is the modern-day version of a centuries-old tradition in which dozens of volunteer artists create large-scale pastel artworks directly on the pavement of our county’s streets. Held in the commuter lot near the intersection of Route 630 (Courthouse Road) and I95 north in Stafford, Virginia, the location provides plenty of parking and space to spread out.

Bring the entire family to watch the artists in progress, enjoy music on the Via Music stage, and visit vendors and food trucks. Kids will love Via Bambini, where they’ll get to create their own works of art! Via Colori Stafford benefits the Stafford Museum and Cultural Center and the combined Rotary Clubs of Stafford with support from our sponsors.
